Get to know the best phones for gamers

The Razer phone captivated a new niche in the smartphones market. The one dedicated to gamers looking for gaming-focused phones.


The Razer smartphone has an 8-core processor running at up to 2.35 GHz and 8 GB RAM. The screen is another pro of the phone, with Quad HD resolution and innovative technology capable of upgrading to 120 Hz.

Following the wave of Razer, manufacturers Xiaomi and ZTE presented their bets for players, a daring design and features that will not disappoint when playing a game on Android. Black Shark and Nubia Red Light are also interesting options for consumers. Here’s a list:


1. Xiaomi Black Shark

The Chinese brand  has cutting-edge configurations, especially the processor. The Snapdragon 845 – Qualcomm’s most advanced chipset – runs with 8 cores and speeds up to 2.8 GHz. A liquid cooling system promises to keep your phone at comfortable temperatures – something important in long gaming sessions.

The Black Shark is sold in two options of RAM: 6 GB or 8 GB. Already in storage, the user chooses between 64 GB or 128 GB. The 6-inch screen has Full HD + resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels), and the phone has dual camera with sensors of 20 megapixels and 12 megapixels.

Exclusive to the Chinese market at the moment, the Black Shark has a 4,000 mAh battery and prices from $ 477  for the entry version, and $ 557  for the 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.


2. Nubia Red Light

Nubia is a brand that belongs to the Chinese ZTE. The Red Light is supposed to be the company´s alternative to the Razer Phone and to the Black Shark of Xiaomi. Like the Razer, the ZTE device runs on the Snapdragon 835 processor, the octa-core processor predecessor to the 845 that ships on the Xiaomi Black Shark. A 3,800 mAh battery keeps it running.

The handset can come with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, has 64 GB or 128 GB of data space and a very high resolution camera: 24 megapixels. The Nubia Red Light has a very flashy design and features a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, lower than the Razer Phone’s Quad HD. Like the Xiaomi, the ZTE  phone does not have the 120 Hz screen, an exclusive of the Razer phone.

The smartphone is sold only in the Chinese market for 2,999 yuan, or approximately $ 1,620.


3. Moto Gamepad + Moto Z2 Play or Z2 Force

Moto Gamepad, a modular accessory from Motorola connects to the smartphones of the Moto Z line and promises to transform the mobile phone into a portable video game with buttons and simillar controllers.

With 6GB RAM and the same Snapdragon 835 from the Razer Phone and the Nubia Red Light, the Moto Z2 Force has credentials to become a gamer phone. The Gamepad is also compatible with Moto Z2 Play which, however, has a lower processor: the 2.2 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 606. The Z2 Play’s RAM is 4 GB. On the batteries, we got 2,730 mAh and 3,000 mAh, respectively.

Motorola phones also differ on the screen. The Z2 Force has Quad HD display – although without the update at 120 Hz – while the Z2 Play has Full HD display. Z2 Play goes costs $ 1,300, while Force is $ 2,100. The Moto Gamepad can be purchased separately at $ 799.
