Galaxy S9 Plus dethrones iPhone X and becomes world’s best-selling phone

Samsung phone Galaxy S9 Plus leads the market. Apple and Xiaomi follow behind.

After leading in isolation in the first three months of 2018, the iPhone X is no longer the world’s best-selling mobile phone since April. According to information from Counterpoint Research, Galaxy S9 Plus and S9 took first and second place, respectively, pushing Apple’s gadget two numbers down.

Samsung’s two super-premium models each captured a 2.6% share of all sales that month, accounting for 5.2% of the market – which means absolute leadership, according to the portal. The expressive results are mainly due to the numbers attained in the Asia-Pacific region and in North America, namely in the United States and Canada.

With a lower price following the launch of its successor, the Galaxy S8 represented 1.3% of sales, taking tenth place among the best sellers. A similar situation also happens with other older devices, such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7, both with 1.4% participation in April.

With high sales share in China and India, Xiaomi had two of its smartphones among the best-selling in the world in this 30-day period. Redmi 5A and Redmi 5 Plus occupy the sixth (1.5%) and seventh places (1.4%) respectively.

Despite the fall, the sum of Apple’s numbers is still higher.

Apple continues to dominate the list, despite losing the top spot for its main competitor, Samsung. iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus occupy the third and fourth place, with 2.3% market share. The iPhone 8 comes just behind, in fifth place, with 2.2%. In addition to iPhones 6 and 7, all Apple devices on the list have a 9.6% stake.

Counterpoint Research predicts Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will continue to rise in the rankings, as will Xiaomi’s handsets. Huawei, which recently took the news because of the success of Honor 10, may also appear in the rankings in the coming months.
